Getting Started
My name is Ana and I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last week, July 16. My father had diabetes but I didn’t really know that much about the disease. I begin this blog as a way to help myself stay on track with the control of my diabetes. I am NOT a doctor, dietician or an expert. I do not know everything there is to know about diabetes. If along the way, I am able to encourage fellow diabetics then I will be more pleased.
Diagnosis Day
So I have found out I have type 2 diabetes when two consecutive laboratory examinations declared that my Glucose level is HIGH. It went from 8.06 to 8.20. The normal is up to 6 only.
Why me?
Maybe it was a mistake! How many out there thought that at first? Well, the sad truth, it was not a mistake. As newly diagnosed person, I started out following diabetic and low calorie diet and some exercise routine. As I blog, I will talk about my experiences and what I have learned along the way. I hope you join me in my journey. It has been a week since I was diagnosed with this disease. To me, it seemed bloody unfair. I railed against the world for a while and since I cannot change it anymore, I decided to get on with it.
What to do next?
I opted to consult my Nutritionist regarding the food I need to eat especially now I am a type 2 Diabetic. For me, diet is not supposed to restrict you from eating. It is more about making food choices that is in line of what you want to achieve.
To make the long story short, the Nutritionist shared to me that the technique is eating a small portion in frequent times. Reduce quantity of red meat (Pork and Beef) and replace them with fish. Also, befriend with vegetables and fruits. I came up with food diary to help me and my Nutritionist to track down my calories and carbs intakes.

These apply only to me. They may or may not apply to other type 2 diabetics. It was difficult, honestly. I can no longer have my favorites – pizzas, burgers, ice creams, chocolates and coffee. But again it is a mind game! We need to have a discipline and please DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF for your condition! It will only cause guilt and hopelessness. You CAN undo the damage! :)
