Unemployment has taught me some difficult lessons. There were constant lessons about identity issues, wondering if I were already my Mom's pain in the ass for being dependent on her for 8 months. I totally wrecked me! It weigh down every part of my being. It was a faith-struggle for me at the time.
I experienced the penetrating insecurity of not finding work despite all my achievements and past job roles. Every time I got check my Facebook and Twitter, I felt like everyone I knew was accelerating towards success and I was sputtering in my bed, all day and night long.
So there I was with no unemployment income, no savings, and being totally dependent on my Mom. I was so devastated and frustrated. I felt so alone. I felt useless.
Just when everything looked bleak, I made a decision to fully surrender to God and trust Him every part of me. I started to declare all His promises and just let myself soaked in His presence.
It is no doubt that the Lord always cares for us, even during job loss.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Taking delight in the Lord means that our hearts truly find peace and fulfillment in Him. If we truly find satisfaction and worth in Christ, Scripture says He will give us the longings of our hearts. The idea behind this verse is that when we truly rejoice or “delight” in the eternal things of God, our desires will begin to parallel His and we will never go unfulfilled.
In support to this God's promises, Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [the necessities of life] will be given to you as well.”
If we place our joy and hope in God first, He will meet all of our needs. He will even grant our wants, as our hearts’ desires begin to match up with His will.
I got a job. Yes, after 6 months of being ill and recuperating and 2 months of job seeking. God provided me a job that is beyond my expectations.
It was far from my previous roles but I am more than excited to learn new things and discover more my God-given talents and potentials for the benefit of those people working for me, for my boss and for our company as a whole.
I hope and pray that my testimony encourage all of you that God will bring you what you need the most in the perfect timing (Galatians 4:4). You just need to trust in the Lord with all our heart, acknowledge Him in all our ways, rest in peace and wait for Him patiently, rejoice in Him as always, and He will bring you the desires of your heart. (Psalms 37:4, Proverbs 3:5-6)
